Romans Chapter 15: Verses 14-15 (NIV)
I myself am convinced, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with knowledge and competent to instruct one another. Yet I have written you quite boldly on some points to remind you of them again, because of the grace God gave me…
2 Timothy Chapter 2: Verse 15 (NIV)
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
The Roman church had clearly learned a lot, yet they still needed instruction. There were things that they needed reminding of. Every day is a school day, so the saying goes. And that applies even to Christians who have been on their faith journey for a while. That is partly how the blog started. Every day I learn or am reminded of things from the Bible that I believe that the Holy Spirit has brought to my attention and wants me to take note of. It reminds me once again that God’s Word as written in the Bible is always fresh and should be treated as such.
Those of us who are more familiar with the Bible’s teaching need to be careful to never take it for granted or to fall into the trap highlighted by another old saying – that familiarity breeds contempt. We need to pay heed to the advice that Paul gave to his protégé, Timothy, and make a point of being able to handle the word of truth correctly. That’s what makes us mature Christians.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for the blessing of Your Word which is always fresh and helps us daily. Help me to pay heed to the teaching of Your Word and I also ask for a blessing on those who are called to preach and teach within the Church in order to be healthy Christians growing in Christ. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
