1 May 2023 – What have I learned today?

John Chapter 2: Verses 24-25 (NIV Translation)

But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people.  He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.

When I was working, and occasionally still today, I was asked to give a reference for someone, and when I was recruiting new staff, it was something I asked for too. Usually when you give a reference for someone, you’re usually asked what you know about the person’s character, reliability, skills and health. That’s because the person asking for the reference doesn’t know the applicant well enough.

On a few occasions after I asked for a reference for someone, I got information back that suggested for various reasons that the candidate was not suitable for the post they were applying for and it made me think twice about their application. Jesus didn’t need to ask for a reference. He knew everything about the people he came into contact with, even if they were putting on a good front. However, the great thing is that even if there are issues in our lives that we would rather other people didn’t know about, Jesus is not put off by that, and He will never turn us away when we come to Him for help.

Dear Lord,

Thank You that even although You know all about our character, the good and the bad, You never turn us away when we come to You for help, and You can put the things right that need fixed when we humble ourselves and ask. Thank You for your kindness and goodness to me. Amen.
