John Chapter 2 verses 7-11 (NIV)

Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

The miracle in Cana was the first of Jesus’ ministry. The people to whom this miracle was revealed were the servants at the wedding. Everyone else, except His mother seemed to have been completely unaware of what had happened. The servants took a risk in obeying Jesus’ command. They may not have known who he was. His public ministry had only just begun. But they trusted Him and were rewarded for their faith.

If Jesus asks us to do something it may be something that no one else is aware of. But it doesn’t matter who else knows. If Jesus commands, our job is to follow the advice Mary have to the servants. “Do whatever He tells you.”

Dear Lord,

May I be as obedient as those servants, even when no one else is watching. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
