10 December 2024 – What have I learned today?

Revelation chapter 2: verse 19 (NIV)

I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first.

Revelation chapter 2: verse 24 (NIV)

Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets, I will not impose any other burden on you.

Perseverance is clearly a quality which is commended by the Lord as the church is Thyatira is commended for this today, and also for the fact that their work for the Lord has increased and they were not resting on their laurels. But I was interested in the subsequent words to about the fact that Jesus doesn’t put a burden on us.

Its too easy to get caught up with “doing” and even when its done with the best of intentions, we need to be sure that it is something that Jesus wants us to do, and not something which we think we should do. If it feels burdensome, then perhaps its not being done as Jesus intends us to do it, or maybe not even something He wants us to do. After all, He Himself teaches us that His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

Dear Lord,

Thank You that You never place a heavy burden on us. Help me to be careful not to place a heavy burden on myself or on anyone else. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
