10 October 2026 – What have I learned today?

Jeremiah chapter 22 verses 15-16 (NIV)

“Does it make you a king

to have more and more cedar?

Did not your father have food and drink?

He did what was right and just,

so all went well with him.

He defended the cause of the poor and needy,

   and so all went well.

Is that not what it means to know me?”

   declares the LORD.

I think what Jeremiah is being taught here is that having more and more possessions are not the true measurements of success. Jeremiah teaches us that it’s how we behave towards others  that makes us more like Jesus, and part of the kingdom of priests that God wants us to be.

In preparing for this Sunday’s Junior Church lesson, I read that of the 10 commandments, the first 4, concerned how we are to behave towards God, and the following 6 are how we should behave towards people. God is interested in people not possessions.

Dear Lord,

Help me to do what is right in my behaviour towards others so that the light of Jesus is seen in me. I ask in His Holy Name. Amen.
