Deuteronomy Chapter 15: Verse 15 (NLT Translation)
“Remember that you were once slaves in the land of Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you! That is why I am giving you this command.”
God wanted His chosen people to be an example to other nations of how to live differently, to honour Him for His blessings , but to be fair and compassionate to others. Moses told the people that they too had known difficulty, hardship and discrimination by others, and that this experience should teach them to treat others the way that they would like to be treated.
God uses the experiences we go through to teach us also to show empathy and compassion to others and to give glory and thanks to God for bringing us through these experiences. He still wants His followers today to be an example to others. We have Jesus’ example to show us how – and the Holy Spirit’s help to carry it through.
Dear Lord,
Help me remember how much You have brought me through. Help me to be more empathetic and compassionate to others because of the compassion and mercy that Jesus showed to me. I ask in His Name. Amen.
