11 June 2026 – What have I learned today?

2 Samuel chapter 18 verses 12 – 13 (NIV)

But the man replied, “Even if a thousand shekels were weighed out into my hands, I would not lay a hand on the king’s son. In our hearing the king commanded you and Abishai and Ittai, ‘Protect the young man Absalom for my sake.’ And if I had put my life in jeopardy—and nothing is hidden from the king —you would have kept your distance from me.”

Joab was given instruction by King David which he was about to disobey, but first he thought someone else would do his dirty work. He didn’t  realise the king’s words had been overheard. Perhaps he thought no one would know. Yet this one solder did, and was prepared to act with integrity, even though he could easily have killed Absalom.

Its how we react when we think no one is watching, or will notice our behaviour that counts. We never know who’s watching, but we know God always is.

Dear Lord,

May I behave with the same integrity as this soldier and be a proper ambassador for Christ, even if I don’t think anyone is watching. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
