Psalm 106: Verses 43-46 (NIV Translation)
Many times he delivered them,
but they were bent on rebellion
and they wasted away in their sin.
Yet he took note of their distress
when he heard their cry;
for their sake he remembered his covenant
and out of his great love he relented.
He caused all who held them captive
to show them mercy.
God knew His rebellious children well. Over and over, they forgot about them, so He left them to their own devices, which is what they wanted. But He misses nothing! No matter how many times they let Him down, or how many times they cried out to Him, the Psalmist tells us that He took note of their distress and made their captors showed them mercy.
How many times have we too come before God with repentant hearts? God takes note of our distress. He will not ignore it – He loves us!
Dear Lord,
Sometimes I feel as fickle as the ancient Israelites. Yet You still hear any weak but sincere cry for help and You come with mercy and grace. Help me to remember that and get up again when I fall. Help me also to show grace and mercy to others as You do to me. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
