Proverbs chapter 19 verse 23 (NIV)
The fear of the LORD leads to life;
then one rests content, untouched by trouble.
Some people might misinterpret this verse. God wants us to live life to the full and know what it is to be content in all circumstances. He doesn’t say that we will not have trouble but he wants us to be untouched by it. In other words we should still remain in God and not allow our circumstances, which may indeed include trouble, affect our spiritual life.
Paul put it this way to the Philippian church –“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians chapter 4 verses 12-13(NIV)
Paul had more than his fair share of trouble, yet he could say that he was content. If we keep the Lord at the centre of our lives, then surely we too can learn to be content in all circumstances too.
Dear Lord,
Keep me close to you so that I can be content in all circumstances. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
