Esther chapter 6: verses 1-3 (NIV)
That night the king could not sleep; so he ordered the book of the chronicles, the record of his reign, to be brought in and read to him. It was found recorded there that Mordecai had exposed Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s officers who guarded the doorway, who had conspired to assassinate King Xerxes. “What honour and recognition has Mordecai received for this?” the king asked. “Nothing has been done for him,” his attendants answered.
When we do something which we believe to be of God and under His direction, that doesn’t mean initially that it will be noticed and approved of by anyone else at the time. But we are not looking for the approval and reward from anyone else. All that matters is our obedience to God in doing what He says. He will not have overlooked what we have done, and in the fulness of time, at the right time, we will see the outworking of God’s plan and the reason for our actions.
So then, we should never get despondent if initially nothing seems to have happened, or our circumstances have not changed. God knows what He is doing and He never overlooks our obedience.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for Mordecai’s example. He didn’t throw in the towel, or go in the huff when his actions seemed initially to have been overlooked. Help me to only act to please You and not to win the favour and good opinion of others. I ask in Jesus’ Name. AMEN.
