Luke chapter 12 verses 22-23 (NIV)
Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.
Luke chapter 12 verses 27-31(NIV)
“Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
Luke Christmas challenge day 12.These are very familiar verses to many. But verse 22 is what caught my attention. Jesus was reminding His disciples that life is meant to be lived to the full, as He intends for us to. It’s easy to get caught up with “stuff” and in particular at this time of year there seems to be a lengthening list of things people think they need to do to meet theirs, and others, expectations of the ‘perfect’ Christmas celebration. But, in fact, in seeking first God’s Kingdom we have everything we need, and more. Doesn’t that take the stress and pressure off us?
Dear Lord,
Thank You for reminding me that Jesus came that we might have life and live it to the full. We don’t need all of the trappings that the world thinks we do. Help me to put that into practice, particularly this Christmas time. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
