12 June 2025 – What have I learned today?

Psalm 73 verses 1-3 (NIV)

 Surely God is good to Israel,

   to those who are pure in heart.

But as for me, my feet had almost slipped;

   I had nearly lost my foothold.

For I envied the arrogant

   when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

Here we see at the beginning of this psalm that the psalmist acknowledges God’s goodness to His people.

Yet in spite of this, in the verses that follow, we see where the psalmist almost came a cropper. When he took his eyes away from God, and His plans for the psalmist’s life, and focused on the lives of others, we read that  his feet nearly slipped, and he almost lost his foothold.

That’s a reminder to us to keep our focus on what God wants to do in us, and what He  wants from us, and not concern ourselves with what someone else is doing. That way we are less likely to trip up. With my disability, I recall that as a child my mum would often tell me to, “watch where you’re putting your feet, ” as I had a tendency not to lift them up properly, and this led to me falling over. That’s good advice for us on our spiritual walk too isn’t it? If we watch where we’re putting our own feet then we can’t be looking at anyone else’s.

Dear Lord,

Thank You for reminding me to watch where I’m putting my feet. Help me to do so. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
