John Chapter 7: Verse 27 (NIV)
“But we know where this man is from; when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he is from.”
John Chapter 7: Verses 41-42 (NIV)
Others said, “He is the Messiah.”
Still others asked, “How can the Messiah come from Galilee? Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David’s descendants and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?”
Luke Chapter 2: Verses 4-7 (NIV)
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
The people made assumptions about Jesus because they did not know the full story about Jesus’ birth, which fulfilled all the promises about the Messiah. Through the Bible we have the benefit of knowing the full story.
People may make judgements about our faith, and what to believe, but they may not know the full story. That’s why its important for us to get to know God’s word and never make assumptions. God knows everything about us, and loves us as we are. He wants us never to make assumptions about others, especially if we don’t know their full story.
However, we can take the opportunity to address peoples’ misconceptions about Jesus. And we can only do that by emulating Him and being familiar with God’s Word.
Dear Lord,
I thank You that You never make assumptions about us because You know all about us. Help me to be the best ambassador I can be about Jesus and Your Word so that others don’t make wrong assumptions about You. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
