13 February 2026 – What have I learned today?

Proverbs Chapter 4 verses 25-27 (NIV)

 Let your eyes look straight ahead;

   fix your gaze directly before you.

Give careful thought to the paths for your feet

   and be steadfast in all your ways.

 Do not turn to the right or the left;

   keep your foot from evil.

I woke up this morning to a heavy snow shower. A couple of centimetres of snow already covered the cul-de-sac. I knew I had no reason to go out today, so I was quite happy to stay in, and ironically, enjoy watching the sports at the winter Olympics. At any time, but particularly during the winter,  because of my disability, I am always watching where to put my feet. I don’t want to take a fall.

Solomon tells us in this proverb that we  should give careful thought to the paths for our feet. To me that means not making impulsive decisions that might lead us on a rocky road. However, unlike me casting a glance down the road I am about to walk on, Solomon reminds us that as Christians we should fix our gaze straight ahead and keep that as our focus. We need not look round to see what’s happening round about us. This is reinforced in chapter 12 verse 2 in the New Testament book of Hebrews, where we are told to fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. The good think about that is that if we do keep our eyes on the Lord and go the way He wants us to go, He will not let our foot slip. We will have no fear of falling over.

Dear Lord,

Thank You that You make straight paths for my feet. Help me to walk them with a focus on Your will, knowing that I can walk with You in confidence. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
