Luke Chapter 1: Verses 36-37 (NIV-UK)
Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.’
Mary had just been told the most incredible and life-changing news. The angel Gabriel then gave her further encouragement by telling her the news about her cousin Elizabeth. He was underlining God’s ability to do miraculous things. But in a way he was also giving Mary a nudge of support. By telling her Elizabeth’s news, Mary knew that here was the only other person who would be able to come close to understanding what she was going to go through, and she took the hint and headed off to stay with Elizabeth for a while.
When God calls us to do something for Him that is significant and life changing, He will prepare us and strengthen us for what lies ahead. He will not leave us to flounder. He will encourage and strengthen us in a way that will mean the most to us. Once we have said “Yes” to God, He will equip us with whatever we need. And as Gabriel promised Mary, He will prove to us that nothing He has said will ever fail. He knew what Mary needed just at that time and He knows what we need too, and also how best to meet that need. God is indeed no man’s debtor.
Dear Lord, Thank You that You never leave us to struggle alone. You encourage and strengthen us in whatever way that’s best for us. Sometimes that means You send someone else to walk part of the journey with us, and we can strengthen each other and be a blessing to each other. I pray that my experiences too may encourage and help someone else on their own journey, Thank You that Y
