14 August 2025 – What have I learned today?

Ecclesiastes chapter 9 verse 17( NIV)

The quiet words of the wise are more to be heeded than the shouts of a ruler of fools.

1Kings 19 verses 11-13(NIV)

The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.  When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Sometimes the most important things we hear or the advice we receive comes so quietly, or in such an unexpected manner, that we may almost miss it, unless we are careful.

We might expect an answer to prayer to come in a particular, way but we must remember that God’s ways are not our ways.

During a recent stay at Struthers summer

camp, God taught me something that I’d never seen before. It came in such a way that was not the main part of the preaching but nevertheless it hit the spot. I’m grateful I didn’t miss it.

Dear Lord,

Thank You that You know what we need to hear, and how to tell us, even if it’s in a way we don’t expect. Help me to be sensitive to be able to hear what You have to say to me. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
