14 October 2026 – What have I learned today?

Psalm 119 verses 33-35 (NIV)

Teach me, LORD, the way of your decrees,

that I may follow it to the end.

Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law

and obey it with all my heart.

Direct me in the path of your commands,

   for there I find delight.

These verses in Psalm 119 show us, in my opinion, the reason why we need to persevere, as we looked at the other day. The psalmist asks God to teach him His ways so that he could keep them to the end.

This, I think disprove the belief of some that, “once saved, always saved.” We are not saved to do whatever we want, we are saved to serve and follow the Lord.

There is a sense of satisfaction from finishing something well. Look at the marathon runners who are so desperate to cross the finish line, that they are sometimes supported, indeed half carried, across. How awful it would be to get so far and not be able to cross that line.

Wouldn’t it be awful to miss out on an eternity with God because we didn’t persevere until the end.

Dear Lord,

Help me to keep going on this race you have marked out for me, until I cross the finish line. Thank You for always encouraging me to press on. May I do so diligently. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
