1 Corinthians chapter 9 verses 24-25 (NIV)
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
We need to put an effort in when we set out to run our race. Paul uses the example of athletes who go into training when they are preparing to compete in their chosen sport. They know that if they are serious about winning they can’t be half hearted about the way they live.
If we are serious about following Jesus, then we too must take it seriously. It’s too important to be half hearted about. And the price paid to allow us to live as a follower of Jesusis far too high to take lightly.
Dear Lord,
Help me to make an effort to run my race, not only with perseverance but in lifestyle. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
