John chapter 8 verses 31-32 (NIV)
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
What struck me about these verses is that Jesus was speaking to those who believed in Him, not those who criticised Him. He was reminding them that they had to hold fast to His teaching to know full truth and liberty. They couldn’t pick and choose which parts of His teaching to believe and when to disregard. We too need to do the same. If we say we follow Jesus, then we need to follow Him completely and wholeheartedly. Only then will we know complete truth and freedom.
Dear Lord,
I’m grateful that Your teaching is reliable and brings truth and freedom. Help me to hold it fast and wholeheartedly. I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
