Psalm 107 verses 24-27 (NIV)
They saw the works of the LORD,
his wonderful deeds in the deep.
For he spoke and stirred up a tempest
that lifted high the waves.
They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths;
in their peril their courage melted away.
They reeled and staggered like drunkards;
they were at their wits’ end.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble,
and he brought them out of their distress.
Two sentences jumped out at me from this passage. “…they were at their wits end. THEN they cried out to the LORD in their trouble.”
We also read how God stepped in to rescue them in their distress. But I did think about why we often wait until we too are at our wits end before we cry out to God in our distress. He wants to be involved in all our circumstances from the beginning. We are not meant to soldier on in our own strength, or wait until our courage melts away as we read here. If we involve God from the beginning, He will give us the courage and strength we need to face our circumstances with Him by our side.
Dear Lord,
Thank You that when we cry out in our distress You answer us. But help me never to face things in my own strength when I can face any circumstance with You alongside. I pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
