Ezra chapter 1 verses 1-2 (NIV)
In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfil the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and also to put it in writing: “This is what Cyrus king of Persia says:” ‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah.”
This portion of scripture is a reminder that God always keeps His word, even though it may have been some time since the promise was made. The people in exile had to wait seventy years, but now we see how God moved His hand to bring about what He had promised.
That is a reassurance to us. We can hold on to God’s promises and He will move however He needs to in order to bring that promise to pass when the time is right. Praise His Name!
Dear Lord,
I’m so grateful that You will do whatever You need to in order to fulfil Your word and that means I don’t need to worry about how it will happen. But I do need to wait patiently for it. Help me to do that with faith and grace. I pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
