16 February 2023 – what have I learned today?

Exodus Chapter 20: Verses 24-25 (NLT Version)

“Build for me an altar made of earth, and offer your sacrifices to me- your burnt offering and peace offering, your sheep and goats, and your cattle. Build my altar wherever I cause my name to be remembered, and I will come to you and bless you. If you use stones to build my altar, use only natural, uncut stones. Do not shape the stones with a tool, for that would make the altar unfit for holy use.”

God gave instructions to Israel not to make an elaborate altar to worship Him. He doesn’t want fancy things; He doesn’t need them, He is our Creator. He wants open, honest worship from us. It’s what’s in our heart and mind He is interested in, not how we look or dress, or even whether we attend an elegant church building.

God doesn’t put pressure on us to do all these things – we put the pressure on ourselves. God loves us and all He wants is for us to love Him in return.

Dear Lord,

I do sometimes put pressure on myself and assume that You want me to behave or present myself in a certain manner.

Thank You for being only interested in what’s in my heart. Amen.
