16 November 2025 – What have I learned today?

Hebrews chapter 13 verse 15  – 16(NIV)

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

I’m sure that many Christians who have been on their journey of faith for a while will be aware of the importance of praising God – even when everything else within us would rather not. That’s when our obedience in doing so is truly a sacrifice. But what struck me here in verse 15 was one word – the word “continually” . This means not just once but always remembering to bring our praise to God, no matter what. Is it possible? Job, in the midst of his loss, pain and suffering, refused to curse God and die. He was even able to say, “Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him;” (Job chapter 13 verse 15). The writer of Hebrews doesn’t stop there. We are reminded of our obligation to do good and share with others, even when it’s the last thing we want to do. But, as we are told, with such sacrifices God is pleased. Surely also Jesus is able to understand the depth of our struggles when we make such sacrifices, because He knows what it feels like. Dear Lord, When I find it hard to do as the writer of Hebrews teaches, help me also to remember that in chapter 4 of Hebrews we are told that Jesus is able to empathise with us in our weakness, and thus help me to be obedient even if I struggle. Thank You, Jesus that You understand. Help me to follow Your example. Amen.
