If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything? But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it.
At this time of year some of our young people get the results of their exams. Some will do better than they hoped and others less well. They may have a lot riding on the results to get where they would like to be for the next phase in their life journey. If they don’t get the results that they wanted does that mean that they can’t take the direction that they hoped to? They may need to re-evaluate things, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a bright future ahead. God’s plans are never thwarted.
Just as He put all parts of the body where He wanted them to be, He will make sure that we are in the place where He wants us to be too. Wherever that is, it’s no less valuable or important than where He puts anyone else.
Let’s make sure that we encourage people, young or old, whatever road they are on, rather than put pressure on them to follow a particular direction. The most important thing for all of us is to find out where God wants us to be.
Dear Lord,
Help me to take comfort in the fact that You know exactly where You want me to be. You have planned the best for me. Help me to follow it, even if it’s not the one I expected or hoped for. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
