Genesis chapter 37 verse 8 (NIV)
His brothers said to him, “Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said.
Sometimes people will take umbrage at what we say with regards to matters of faith, particularly when it’s something they don’t want to hear. But does that mean we shouldn’t say it? Of course we need to be wise and be guided by the Holy Spirit. Some commentators say that Joseph was unwise to share his dream with his brothers since they were already jealous of him.
Personally, I would argue that Joseph didn’t say he was going to rule over his brothers, he simply reported the dream. If he hadn’t, they would not have seen how God brought the dream to pass years later, and how He turned it for good. God will outworked His plans and people will see His hand at work, even if they don’t like it.
Dear Lord,
May I be bold enough to speak Your word with wisdom and discernment. Grant me the courage not to be put off if people take offence. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
