19 April 2025 – What have I learned today?

Luke chapter 19 verses 28 to 34 (NIV)

After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.  If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’” Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” They replied, “The Lord needs it.”

If Jesus has a task for us to do, He will give us what we need and tell us what to do and say. If we are completely obedient and do as we have been instructed, we will find, as these two disciples did, that everything is just as Jesus said it would be. The owners of the colt didn’t question its use. They also must have been prepared by the Lord to allow this, providing they were given the answer they expected to hear. There were steps in the process that all had to fit in and that’s why the disciples had to do exactly as they were told. No shortcuts, no doing things their way. If they had deviated from Jesus’ instructions, they might have got into all sorts of trouble, perhaps even been accused of stealing!

So also with us. When Jesus has something for us to do, we need to be careful to follow His leading exactly. By doing so we, like the disciples will find things just as Jesus said it would be. But like the disciples we need to be obedient down to the last jot and tittle.

Dear Lord,

Thank You that You give us clear and precise instructions when You have something for us to do. Help me to be sure to follow them exactly so that I too can find things just as You said they would be. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
