Mark Chapter 4: Verses 33-34 (NLT)
Jesus used many similar stories and illustrations to teach the people as much as they could understand. In fact, in his public ministry he never taught without using parables; but afterward, when he was alone with his disciples, he explained everything to them.
Jesus knew that not everyone needed to know the same level of information, and he knew how much people could cope with. His disciples were going to be responsible for carrying on His teaching after He ascended to Heaven, so He needed to explain things in much more depth than He did when He was teaching a crowd.
Jesus knows us intimately, and our circumstances. He knows both how much we can understand and when to share His plans for us. We don’t therefore need to get concerned about what His plans for us are. He will tell us what we need to know at the right time. That means we don’t need to pay too much attention to what He’s doing for and through anyone else, and we shouldn’t concern ourself about anyone else’s business unless He tells us to.
Dear Lord,
I’m grateful that You know me intimately, and therefore know full well what I can understand and cope with. Help me therefore to trust that You know what You’re doing and not try to take matters into my own hands. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
