Exodus chapter 25 verses 8-9
“Then let them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them. Make this tabernacle and all its furnishings exactly like the pattern I will show you.”
Today’s Old Testament reading begins quite detailed instructions given by God to Moses regarding the creation of the earthly Tabernacle, it’s furnishings and it’s implements required for service.
Three times in Exodus chapter 25 we read of the LORD’s exhortation to Moses to be sure to make the Tabarnacle according to the pattern God would show him.
That got me thinking how important that instruction was. After giving full instructions to Moses, we read later on that God commissions skilled craftsmen to make all the articles to be used in the tabernacle. We also read that God gives these craftsmen the gifts and skills to carry out the work. But with all their creative skill, the one thing they needed to remember was not to deviate, even in the smallest way from God’s instructions.
Do we always stick wholeheartedly to the instructions that God has given us, through His written word in the Bible, or to us personally? Sometimes we can be guilty of trying to add our own stamp onto whatever God has asked of us, or think that we can do things a better way. That only gets us into trouble. We know full well that God’s ways are better and higher than ours so let’s make sure that we carry out His instructions to the very letter without the slightest deviation.
Dear Lord,
Thank You that You always give clear and precise instructions to keep us on the right path, and to ensure that we are living as You planned for us. Help me to remember that those instructions can’t be improved on. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
