19 June 2023 – What have I learned today?

Psalm 75: Verses 2-3 (NIV)

You say, “I choose the appointed time;
    it is I who judge with equity.
 When the earth and all its people quake,
    it is I who hold its pillars firm.

David lived in uncertain times with plenty of trials and temptations along the road. But he held on to the one certain fact he could trust; when everything around him seemed to be crumbling, God was still in control, and would move in His time on David’s behalf.

God is still the same today. We too live in increasingly uncertain times. There is a growing lack of trust in many of those who are in positions of power and authority. The cult of celebrity and popularity has learned just how fickle we are, and at times it feels like anything goes. Those who seek to live their faith as an ambassador for Jesus are often looked on with cynicism and arrogance.

Does God know what’s going on?  – Yes, He does! And when we feel everything is crumbling, God is still holding everything together. We go to Him for certainty and assurance. When we don’t understand we can still trust God.

David said that when he felt overwhelmed, he called out to God, to the rock that was steadfast and secure. (Psalm 61: Verse 2). And if we can do nothing else about the circumstances we are in, we too can do the same.

Dear Lord,

In such uncertain times, I thank You that You are just, fair and in control. Help me to hold on to that, no matter what. I ask in Jesus Name. Amen.
