Ezekiel Chapter 37: Verses 4-7 (NIV)
He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”
I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”
Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”
So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone.
We saw in yesterday’s reading how Abraham’s faith was tested and here today is another example. The sight of a valley of dry bones must have been a daunting one. Ezekiel must have wondered what God was going to do. I’m sure he never imagined what was going to happen. First, he was challenged to see if he trusted God, and then he had to say exactly what God told him to. I wonder what he was thinking as he listened to what he was to say. He would never have seen or experienced anything on this scale before. But he did as God said and a miracle happened.
There will be times, as there have already been in my life, where God will challenge our faith by taking us out of our comfort zone and putting us through experiences where we have no control over the outcome, except to trust God and do exactly what He says. Even if our knees are knocking and our words come out in a stutter, if we are obedient then we will see the hand of God at work, both in us and through us. How awesome is that!
Dear Lord,
Help me to have the faith to do exactly as You say, even if the circumstances I am confronted with are bigger than I have ever faced before. Then I can know that You are indeed Lord of all as You taught Ezekiel. I ask in Jesus’ Name for Your glory. Amen.
