Romans chapter 15 verses 15-17 (NIV)
Yet I have written you quite boldly on some points to remind you of them again, because of the grace God gave me to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles. He gave me the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. Therefore I glory in Christ Jesus in my service to God.
Paul talks in these verses about his priestly duty and how much he gloried in Christ Jesus in his service to God.
Using that analogy of priestly service, we remember that there were many different priestly duties done in the temple. The priests were allocated these. We are told in Revelation chapter 1 verse 6 that Jesus” has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father”.
Our role in the church may not be the same as that of Paul, but never the less we all have gifts of service, however humble. We too should therefore see them as a priestly, and thus holy, duty by which we glory in Jesus. It is not a burden or a chore.
Dear Lord, y
Whatever I do for You may I regard it as my priestly duty by which I, like Paul can glory in Jesus. It’s not something to be done lightly, even if it’s a menial task. Help me to remember that I pray. In Jesus’ Name and for His glory. Amen.
