Joshua chapter 21 verses 43-45 (NIV)
So the LORD gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there. The LORD gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the LORD gave all their enemies into their hands. Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.
After forty-five years, as a result of Israel’s disobedience, here we see the fulfilment of God’s promise completely. The people may have been inconsistent in their faith and obedience, but God remained faithful. We need to hold on to what God has said to us and be obedient in it. The people were promised the land, but once they reached it, they had to act in obedience and at God’s instruction, take possession of it. They had to believe the promise and act on it. So too must we. God will expect us to be obedient in order for Him to keep His promises to us. Will we be like the Israelites – will our tardiness and disobedience mean we have to wait to see the fulfilment of them?
Dear Lord,
Thank You for this confirmation that You always keep Your promises. Help me, in obedience to keep mine to You. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
