2 Chronicles Chapter 15: Verse 9 (NIV)
Then he assembled all Judah and Benjamin and the people from Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon who had settled among them, for large numbers had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the Lord his God was with him.
Judah had split from Israel. At the time Asa was King of Judah, there was trouble all around; nations were at war with each other, and Israel had turned away from God. Asa, however, set his heart to follow God, and prayed for guidance and direction. He even deposed his grandmother for worshipping idols. God honoured his life, giving him victory over his enemies. He set an example to his people, and other people noticed God was with him. People from some of the other tribes of Israel came over to Judah when they saw God’s hand on his life. The people made a covenant to follow God and there were years of peace in Judah as the people and the king fulfilled their vow.
Is God’s hand on my life as I live my life to the extent that people notice, as the people recognised in Asa. Is it enough to make them want to live their life the same way? It should be. That’s what God intends us to do. Asa set a great example. We might not be as high profile as him, but we can influence others by the way that we behave. What a blessing to be an encouragement to others in finding God, simply by setting our own hearts to follow Him ourselves, and to do it wholeheartedly as Asa did.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for the example set by Asa. It proves that people can be influenced by the way we behave. Help me to ensure that I live a Godly life that encourages others to want to do the same. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
