But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Galatians Chapter 5: Verses 25-26 (NIV Translation)
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
The Holy Spirit comes into the life of the Christian who has made a committed decision to become a follower of Jesus. He is our leader, comforter, teacher and guide. But to allow Him to be all of those things we need to keep in step with Him. We shouldn’t be running ahead or lagging behind. When we don’t keep in step that’s when things go awry. We are then less likely to pay heed to His prompting, and that’s when our own thoughts and preferences come to the fore. It’s at those times we are more likely to exhibit the list of emotions listed in verse 26, as opposed to the fruits of the Spirit listed in verse 22.
We need to keep in step with the Holy Spirit to allow Him to cultivate and grow His fruit in us. But that might mean He has to do a bit of pruning!
Dear Lord,
Thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit as my Guide and Helper. Help me to keep in step with Him and allow Him to cultivate His fruit in my life. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
