21 April 2023 – What have I learned today?

Psalm 49: Verses 7-9 (NIV)

No one can redeem the life of another
or give to God a ransom for them—

the ransom for a life is costly,
    no payment is ever enough—

so that they should live on forever
    and not see decay.

Matthew Chapter 20: Verse 28 (NIV)

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

I’ve heard it said that all of the Bible is all about Jesus – even the Old Testament. This Psalm was written well before Jesus’ birth. It reiterates that no matter how wealthy we are, we can’t pay God for our eternal life. We can’t pay to live forever, it’s just not possible.

But Jesus paid the price to God on our behalf. And such reminders throughout the Bible ensure that we should never forget that. It’s something we should never take for granted. It’s astounding to think that this is how much that Jesus loves us – He was prepared to pay the ransom that we never could.

Dear God,

Thank You for asking Jesus to pay my ransom. Thank You for paying the ransom that no-one ever could. Please may I NEVER take that for granted. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
