Deuteronomy chapter 34 verse 9 (NIV)
Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to him and did what the LORD had commanded Moses.
James chapter 1 verse 5 (NIV)
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Joshua had big shoes to fill. Moses laid hands on him and the anointing was passed on. Although he was not Moses, and God used Joshua as he was, he still needed to have the wisdom of God to do as he was called to.
We may not all be leaders of many, or even leaders of any, but the last two days readings have shown us that we need the wisdom and leading of God to do whatever work it is that God has for us to do. Sometimes our calling to a specific role may indeed include someone laying hands on us, as Moses did with Joshua. But James tells us that we can ask God ourselves for His wisdom, so that no matter what we are doing we are doing it as God intends. Its okay to ask for His wisdom, just as King Solomon did.
Dear Lord,
Thank You that You will not turn us away if we come and ask for wisdom. Thank You that You always know what’s best for us and if I am uncertain what to do, You will not despise my seeking Your direction. Amen.
