Psalm 101 verses 2-3 (NIV)
I will be careful to lead a blameless life —
when will you come to me?
I will conduct the affairs of my house
with a blameless heart.
I will not look with approval
on anything that is vile.
With my two walking sticks I have to be careful to watch where I’m walking. The smallest stone or crack in a pavement might be enough to cause me to lose my balance.
But this psalm reminds us that we need to take care of the way we live our lives as an ambassador for Christ. We need to consider how our behaviour reflects the light of Christ in us. Or is the light obscured by our conduct? It’s often said that we might be the only bible some people might ever read, and whilst that’s true, it does bring responsibility, and that’s why we need to be careful. That’s why too we shouldn’t even entertain with the merest glance or thought things that we know to be wrong and that goes against the teaching of the Bible. If we take our eyes off Christ it’s more easy for us to trip up isn’t it?
Dear Lord,
Help me to concur with David’s words, so that Your light may be able to shine in me and not be obscured by my behaviour. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
