Mark Chapter 6: Verses 7-8 (NIV-UK)
Calling the Twelve to him, he began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over impure spirits. These were his instructions: ‘Take nothing for the journey except a staff – no bread, no bag, no money in your belts.
Mark Chapter 6: Verses 12-13
They drove out many demons and anointed with oil many people who were ill and healed them.
Mark Chapter 6: Verse 30
The apostles gathered round Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught.
Jesus started His disciples’ ministry journey whilst He was still with them in the flesh. He made sure that they had to trust Him right from the start by telling them not to take anything with them on which they would normally rely, even the basics. I’m sure they went out with a mixture of nervousness and excitement, but they did as He said, and saw the Holy Spirit move through them, and returned with much to report.
If God wants us to do something, He will make a way for us to do so. We should not rely on our own strength, or any other things, except that which the Holy Spirit permits. If we are obedient to God’s call, we can trust, like the Disciples, that even if we are nervous, He will not let us down. Then we too will be able to testify of the goodness of God. Our testimony will in turn make an impact on others.
Dear Lord,
Thank You that You always equip us to do Your work. All You ask is obedience from us and You will take care of the rest. Help me to trust You and to act in total obedience to see Your hand at work and Your name glorified. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
