Proverbs Chapter 5 verse 21 (NIV)
For your ways are in full view of the LORD,
and he examines all your paths.
Yesterday, I pondered on the attitude and response of the synagogue leader who went to Jesus on behalf of his daughter, and the impact that this witness may have had on the onlookers. Today we read Solomon’s
reminder that the Lord too views our ways and examines our paths.
I’ve often heard it said that we don’t know what goes on behind closed doors. That can be good or bad. Some people may put on a brave face to the world, even in times of real hardship, but when on their own may be in deep distress.
Other people may put on a show of living the Christian life, but are they as steadfast when in their own homes. We may not know, but Solomon reminds us that God misses nothing. He sees the lives in despair and reaches out to comfort, and convicts those who are trying to live a double life. The amazing thing is that although He sees the good and the bad, He made a way, through His Son to restore us to Himself, because He loves us no matter what, and wants us for to respond to the work of salvation. If we do so, that’s what matters, not the front that we choose to hide behind.
Dear Lord,
Some people may be afraid to think of the fact that nothing is hidden from You, but I am grateful that You know me and love me, and want to set my feet on the right way. Thank You that You are always ready to restore repentant hearts and comfort those going through difficult times, and that Your eye is on us, just as it is on the sparrow. Amen.
