Ezra chapter 10: verses 4-5 (NIV)
Rise up; this matter is in your hands. We will support you, so take courage and do it.” So Ezra rose up and put the leading priests and Levites and all Israel under oath to do what had been suggested. And they took the oath.
Galatians chapter 6 verse 2 (NIV)
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Ezra had a difficult task to do. It wasn’t going to be easy, or even pleasant, but it was right. However, those who had returned with him and whose hearts were also turned towards God, promised to encourage and support him. Sometimes we are given a job to do, and God gives us the courage and strength we need to be able to do it, but its also great when we are supported and encouraged by those around us, especially when its not an easy thing we have to do.
That’s why Jesus stressed the importance of carrying each other’s burdens. Everyone will need encouragement and support at some time in their lives and as ambassadors of Christ the best thing we can do is to get alongside others and show them His love through our support.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for those who stood beside Ezra in his difficult task, and for all those who have supported me in times of need. Help me to do likewise for someone else when the opportunity arises. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
