22 October 2025 – What have I learned today?

2 Timothy chapter 1 verses 3-5 (NIV)

I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers.  Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

This introduction to Paul’s final letter reminds me of the blessing of having ancestors and family who followed You, and whose faith in You had a major impact on their, and my life. Paul talks of ancestors who served God, and reminds Timothy of the testimony of his mother and grandmother. I look back with love and gratitude to the testimony and life of my Grandpa Murphy.

But some may say what of those who had no such family history? Well then, in such cases it’s up to us all the more to ensure that we leave a testimony of faith for those who come after us.

Dear Lord,

May my testimony of faith in Christ be a faithful legacy to those who follow, of Your love and glorify You. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
