23 July 2025 – what have I learned today?

Hosea chapter 8 verse 12 (NIV)

I wrote for them the many things of my law,

but they regarded them as something foreign.

Last weekend I was sent a video via Instagram of a speech made by Danny Kruger MP. The chamber of the House of Commons was almost empty with a single figure of MPs only present to hear him speak. He gave an impassioned, and in my view anointed, discourse about the fact that the UK has abandoned God’s law and needs to return to its principles. If you haven’t seen it, it’s well worth a watch. I found it very inspiring!

As I pondered on this verse from Hosea, it struck me that so many people in this country today would consider God’s law as foreign. Many younger people will be completely ignorant of what the Bible teaches; they’ve never been taught what it says. As Christians we have a responsibility to teach our young people, and those of any age who are either young in the faith or seeking God, what the Bible says. How can they return to God’s ways if they don’t know what those ways are?

Thank God for the presence of Scripture Union in schools, and it’s weekends and summer camps teaching young people God’s word in a meaningful yet fun way. And let’s also thank God for Christian MPs like Danny Kruger. Let’s remember to support them in prayer that they may be bold in speaking out in this way.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for all those who teach Your word, even if they are doing so at home to their children. We don’t all need to be a pastor or minister to share Your word. Bless Danny Kruger for his boldness and faithfulness. May all Christians in such places of authority be encouraged by his actions. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
