Luke Chapter 5: Verses 4-6 (NLT Translation)
When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”
“Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear!
Simon, Andrew, James and John were seasoned fishermen. They knew the lake and when to fish. But Jesus told them to let down their nets when it seemed not to be the best time. But Jesus spoke with authority and Simon did it anyway, albeit reluctantly.
Are we influenced by what other people say – does it change what we do? The most important person to pay attention to is Jesus. Even if He asks us to do something we wouldn’t expect, we know that we can trust what He tells us, and we can rely on His word.
Dear Lord,
Sometimes I listen to other people’s opinions and am impacted by what they say. Help me to pay attention to what You say and to act on it. I pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
