24 December 2023 – What have I learned today?

Psalm 147: Verse 1 (NIV)

Praise the Lord.

How good it is to sing praises to our God,
    how pleasant and fitting to praise him!
Psalm 147: Verses 10-11 (NIV)

His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse,
    nor his delight in the legs of the warrior;
 the Lord delights in those who fear him,
    who put their hope in his unfailing love.

Today is the last Sunday of Advent. It’s right therefore for us to take time to worship and praise the Lord Jesus for the finished work of redemption that began in the Bethlehem stable. Tomorrow lots of people will take pleasure in the giving and receiving of gifts, or simply for the time to spend in the company of family and friends.

This psalm also reminds us that God takes delight in us – what a thought! That’s the reason behind the Christmas story. And He doesn’t get the greatest pleasure in what we can do for Him. He gets the greatest pleasure when we make the effort to spend time with Him and finding out what He wants us to do. So, let’s make that commitment over this Christmas time. After all look at the effort Jesus made for us.

Dear Lord,

Thank You for the effort Jesus made in setting aside His Glory to become Immanuel, God with us. Help me not to neglect to spend time with You this Christmas time. I ask in His Name and for His glory. Amen.
