Proverbs Chapter 3 verses 3-4 (NIV)
Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
Then you will win favour and a good name
in the sight of God and man.
These verses in chapter 3 of Proverbs remind me of Jesus’ teaching when He said that we were to love God with our whole hearts and to love others as we love ourselves. Thus we must love God first and treat others right too. Too often we want to win the favour of others and be of right standing before men, rather than seeking God’s favour first as these verses tell us. It doesn’t work that way.
If in our hearts we do all we can to please God first and foremost, we become less focused on our status in men’s eyes. Yet somehow when we do that, God Himself gives us favour in their eyes which draws them to Himself.
Dear Lord,
Help me to keep my focus on seeking to please You rather than me. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
