Romans Chapter 8: Verses 26-27 (NLT Translation)
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.
Paul explains to the young roman church that when we come before God in prayer, its not about us doing all the talking. And its also not about what we think we should say, it’s what’s on our heart that’s important. But sometimes we don’t know how to even voice what’s on our heart. That’s where the Holy Spirit Himself will help us as we wait before God; sometimes quietly, sometimes using the gift of tongues if we have it. And the God who knows what’s in our heart, will answer even the unspoken cry of our heart.
Jesus told people, on more than one occasion, that the wordy. eloquent (and sometimes lengthy) prayers of the religious leaders were not the prayers that God wanted to hear. And that’s still true. A stuttering whisper, sob or groan as we wait with sincere hearts before God, will achieve much more than these.
Dear Lord,
Help me to know when to speak as I wait before You, and when to wait quietly as the Holy Spirit moves. Bust most of all, help me to make the time to wait before You. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
