Psalm 15 verses 1-5 (NIV)
LORD, who may dwell in your sacred tent?
Who may live on your holy mountain?
The one whose walk is blameless,
who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from their heart;
whose tongue utters no slander,
who does no wrong to a neighbour,
and casts no slur on others;
who despises a vile person
but honours those who fear the Lord;
who keeps an oath even when it hurts,
and does not change their mind;
who lends money to the poor without interest;
who does not accept a bribe against the innocent. Whoever does these things
will never be shaken.
This is the whole portion of the psalm reading for today. It didn’t seem right to miss any of it out. This seems like a person specification for someone who sincerely wants a right relationship with God. When I was seeking to recruit someone to a job vacancy, I would attempt to match an applicant’s CV with the person specification for the post. So do I match up specification outlined by the psalmist?
The things that stuck out to me was the sentence about keeping an oath even when it hurts, and not to change my mind.
Thus in order to meet the specification, I must be completely focused and single minded. I know that my mind can sometimes be guilty of shooting off in many different directions so I need to be better at not looking at the waves and keep my eyes fixed on Jesus.
Dear Lord,
Thank You that when we know we don’t match up to the person specification, You give us what we need. Help me to keep my focus on You no matter what. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
