Hosea Chapter 12: Verse 6 (NIV)

But you must return to your God;
    maintain love and justice,
    and wait for your God always.

There are people who always want to get things done NOW, and there are people for whom tomorrow will always be good enough. But when the two groups get together that can lead to a bit of a clash. When things don’t get done quickly enough for some folks, they can get frustrated and think, “I’ll just do it myself.”

God’s timing is always perfect. But His timetable is not always the same as ours. Tempting as it may be to think, “I’ll do this myself without God’s help,” this can end up in causing us more problems than if we had just waited. In these circumstances we need to pay heed to Hosea’s advice. We need to be humble, come back to God, and wait graciously, not grumpily, either for His instruction, or for Him to move directly. He knows exactly what He’s doing, but we (and definitely I) need to be better at waiting, instead of taking matters into our own hands.

Dear Lord,

I remember an old hymn with the line, “teach me, Lord to wait”. Sadly, it’s a lesson I’ve not properly mastered. Help me to be patient in life, and in waiting with good grace before You. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
