Acts Chapter 16: Verse 25 (NLT)
Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening.
It’s easier to pray and to praise God when things are going well. It’s a test of faith to be able to do so when times are difficult. Paul and Silas prayed and praised God after they had been beaten and put in prison, and at the dead of night. The other prisoners were listening. It’s obvious that under these circumstances that their faith was real and deep.
Sometimes our faith has the biggest impact on others when we ourselves are being tested. We may not realise that people are watching how we behave in different situations. I heard someone say that the depth of our faith and trust in God shows when we are under pressure. Do we throw in the towel when things get tough, and decide that following God is too hard, or like Paul and Silas, are we found singing and praising God when things are at their darkest?
Dear Lord,
I don’t want to be a fair weather Christian. Help me to be “singing when the evening comes” as the well-known praise song says. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
