26 April 2025 – What have I learned today?

Joshua chapter 10 verse 19 (NIV)

But don’t stop; pursue your enemies! Attack them from the rear and don’t let them reach their cities, for the LORD your God has given them into your hand.”

Philippians chapter 1 verses 4-6 (NIV)

In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

The Israelites had won victory under God in a great battle, but Joshua reminded them that the work was not yet fully complete and that they should continue to pursue their enemies. When God wants us to do something, it may need to be done in stages, and we need to be careful to persevere, even if at first glance it seems we have done enough. Unless God tells us to stop, we should carry on doing as He told us to. After all, as Paul told the Philippian church, we ourselves are an ongoing work in the hands of God, which He will carry on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. He wants us to do the same with the work He has given us to do.

Dear Lord,

Thank You that You will give us the courage and strength to do whatever You require us to. Help me not to rest on my laurels, but to continue and persevere in all You tell me to. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
